Web Design Case Study

Orangeville Foodbank

Client Overview

The Orangeville Food Bank is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food assistance to individuals and families in Dufferin County, Ontario. Established in 1992, the food bank serves approximately 1,100 to 1,200 individuals per month, with a significant portion being children and women. Their commitment extends beyond food distribution—they advocate for food security, engage the community, and offer support services to those in need.

Challenges & Objectives

Before the 2023 website redesign, the Orangeville Food Bank faced several challenges:

  • Difficult Navigation – The old website made it challenging for donors, volunteers, and individuals in need to find the information they required quickly.
  • Outdated Design – The previous layout and structure did not align with modern web design standards, affecting usability and engagement.
  • Limited Accessibility – The site did not fully adhere to WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines, which meant that users with disabilities might have faced barriers when accessing important information.
  • Brand Representation – While the food bank has a vibrant and recognizable brand, its online presence did not fully reflect its energy and community impact.

The main goal for the new website was to create an intuitive and accessible platform that allowed people who wanted to donate or get involved to navigate seamlessly, while also ensuring that those in need could quickly and easily find assistance.

The 2023 website redesign led to significant improvements:

  • Increased User Engagement – Visitors spent more time on the site, with a 40% increase in average session duration.
  • Higher Mobile Traffic – Mobile visits grew by 35%, proving the success of the responsive design.
  • Streamlined Navigation – Users found information faster, with a 50% decrease in bounce rate.
  • Enhanced Accessibility – The new design met WCAG 2.1 standards, making the website more inclusive and ensuring compliance with web accessibility regulations.
